Our western diet has changed dramatically in the last 100 years and with it the emergence of many of the so called “modern day diseases”, obesity, diabetes, auto immune diseases, cancer, alzheimers etc. etc.
Just what is contributing to this current epidemic, the statistics of which show us that one in two women and one in three men will develop cancer in their lifetime. Latest statistics allude to the fact that the incidence of cancer, at least in Tasmania, has trebled in the last 40 years. An alarming statistic by any measure! Furthermore, greater than 50% of the population are classified as seriously over-weight or obese.
Mainstream medicine and the pharmaceutical giants look to develop drugs to fix our problems. It is a huge business and of course they all want to increase and protect their wealth.
Likewise within the food industry there are corporate giants feeding billions of people worldwide. The advent of highly processed food, added sugar to just about everything, highly processed “vegetable” and seed oils coupled with a diet high in carbohydrates relates to inflammation in every cell in our bodies, making those cells susceptible to disease.
BUT….there IS a way to reach optimal health and be the person you really want to be. It does involve some positive lifestyle changes, but the results over several months will be amazing.
Ketosis is a metabolic state in which the body uses fats rather than glucose as its main fuel source.
The Ketogenic Lifestyle has been in clinical use for almost 100 years. It is often referred to as LCHF (Low carb, healthy fat) and is based upon the ideology that the combination of sugar, carbohydrate (which the body converts to glucose) and polyunsaturated seed oils contribute to an inflammatory bodily state that leaves our cells susceptible to disease.
Therefore it is not just about weight loss. Weight loss is a by-product of becoming healthy!
This programme is all about embarking on a journey to not only change eating habits and our relationship with food, but to completely heal our bodies from the in-side out so that we can become the healthiest and happiest versions of ourselves. It is important to remember that every food item we place in our mouths is either GOOD for us, or BAD for us. This thought needs to be foremost in our minds as we embark on our lifestyle change and the resultant healing process.
Essentially we derive energy from two macronutrient sources, fats and carbohydrates (glucose) however our bodies prefer the energy derived from healthy fats as these are slower burning, are twice as energy rich and are not associated with insulin spikes. Also it is interesting to note that sugar is the main source of fuel which feeds cancer and causes inflammation.
Breaking addictions should be foremost in our minds. Sugar is highly addictive and as such presents a chronic health issue in the western world. In the processed food industry it is pretty much added to everything (in order to make that product desirable and in fact acceptable to our sugar sweet expectant palates)
Social eating, nibbles, snacking on sweet treats and emotional eating are all huge problems. There is simply too much food, either put before us – or readily available on a daily basis and generally it is high in sugar, carbohydrate and polyunsaturated seed oils…. WHAT A TOXIC MIX.
Little wonder the health system is over-burdened with obese, sick people!
Successive governments try to cope by expanding the health budget in line with the population’s expanding waistlines!
BUT this is serious business, in fact it is DEADLY serious.
One in two Australians aged 50+ suffer from one or more of the following chronic diseases:

- Cardiovascular disease
AND….it’s all about treatment, never about prevention. Let’s face it, there is no money in prevention, but treatment represents a never ending river of gold!
